How powers are paid for
Why every JoJo power has a price
Damage, reach and rules
A Stand charges its user in three ways, and every JoJo fight is a puzzle built from them. The first is shared damage: whatever hits the Stand shows up on the user, so a cut on its arm is a cut on theirs. The second is reach: most hard-hitting Stands only work a few metres from their user, while Stands that reach far hit softly. The third is the ability's own rules: The World stops time for only seconds, Bites the Dust only works while Kira stays away from his bomb, and Heaven's Door needs to be seen or to touch. Weaknesses come from the same place. Find the rule an enemy Stand has to follow and you have found the way to beat it.
Drawback what the user pays
Damage the Stand takes, the short leash of close-range Stands, and limits like The World's few seconds.
Weakness what the enemy uses against them
The rule each ability depends on: Purple Haze's virus dies in light, Scary Monsters can't see what holds still.

Price · Every hit it takes lands on Jotaro too, and it only reaches a couple of metres from him, so he has to walk into the fight. Its stopped time lasts a second or two at first.
Weakness · Anyone who attacks from beyond its short reach, or from hiding, can hurt Jotaro before it can answer.

6 Parts
Parts and their Stands
Stands first appear in Part 3. Each Part has its own cast and setting, and from Part 7 the story restarts in a new universe. Each Stand below is filed under the Part where it first appears.
Showing 6 of 6
- Part 3: Stardust CrusadersJotaro Kujo and his companions travel from Japan to Egypt to stop DIO. This is the Part that introduced Stands; most enemy Stands are named after tarot cards and Egyptian gods.
- Part 4: Diamond is UnbreakableSet in the small Japanese town of Morioh in 1999, where a bow and arrow keeps creating new Stand users and a quiet serial killer hides in plain sight. Its Stands lean toward strange, everyday powers.
- Part 5: Golden WindItaly in 2001: Giorno Giovanna, DIO's son, joins a Neapolitan gang to take it over from within and ends up fighting its secretive boss and his elite squads.
- Part 6: Stone OceanFlorida in 2011: Jotaro's daughter Jolyne Cujoh is framed and sent to a maximum-security prison, where a priest who once served DIO is carrying out the plan DIO left behind.
- Part 7: Steel Ball RunA new universe begins: in 1890, riders race across America in the Steel Ball Run, and two of them, Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli, chase the parts of a Saint's corpse hidden along the route.
- Part 8: JoJolionIn that new universe's Morioh, a young man with no memory is found buried by Yasuho Hirose. Taking the name Josuke, he searches for who he is, and the search leads to the Higashikata family.

How JoJo powers compare to other fiction
- ChronokinesisJoJo handles time more ways than most fiction: The World and Star Platinum stop it, King Crimson skips it, Made in Heaven speeds it up for the whole universe, and Mandom winds it back six seconds. Each version comes with its own hard limit.Read the Chronokinesis page →
- HealingMost healers mend wounds. Crazy Diamond restores things to how they were before, which also lets it rebuild objects, but it can never heal its own user.See Healing in the list →
- Memory ManipulationHeaven's Door reads a person like a book and writes new rules into them; Whitesnake pulls memories out as DISCs that can be stolen, swapped and returned.See Memory Manipulation in the list →
- Probability ManipulationWonder of U is luck as a weapon: it never attacks, it just lets ordinary accidents pile up on anyone who chases its user.See Probability Manipulation in the list →
FAQ
What are the six Stand stats?
The series grades each Stand on Power (destructive force), Speed, Range, Durability (how long it can keep going), Precision and Potential (room to grow), usually from A (very strong) to E (very weak). A few cards use None, ∞ or ? instead, such as Made in Heaven's infinite Speed or Gold Experience Requiem, whose card is blank.
Which is the strongest Stand?
There is no official answer. On our Tier scale, the Cosmic Stands on this page are Gold Experience Requiem, Made in Heaven, Tusk Act 4 and D4C with Love Train, because each changes the rules of the world itself. Stats do not settle it: The World and Star Platinum have nearly the same card, and the fight was decided by who understood the other's ability.
Why do some Stands have different names in the English anime?
Many Stands are named after real songs and bands. Several official English subtitles renamed them, so Crazy Diamond appears as Shining Diamond and Killer Queen as Deadly Queen. We use the original names, which most fans use, and show the subtitle name on each card where it differs.
What happens to a Stand user when their Stand is hurt?
They are hurt too. Damage to a Stand appears on its user's body in the same place, which is why most Stand fights are won by finding a way past the Stand to its user, or by turning its own rules against it.
